The Role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Outline

To improve the skills of newly appointed Designated Safeguarding Leads in order that they understand their roles and responsibilities and are able to deliver effective safeguarding governance within their school or setting.

Description

A course that fulfils the training requirements for Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) in schools as set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (July 2015).

If maintained or academy, £195 per delegate.
If independent or free school, £345 per delegate.
Tea, Coffee and Biscuits provided throughout the day – lunch will not be provided.
To receive a certificate of attendance you must attend for both days.

Outcomes

Participants will:
  • Understand their roles and responsibilities as the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Understand the legislative framework and guidance underpinning safeguarding and child protection.
  • Understand how schools contribute to the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board and national priorities relating to CSE, FGM, Radicalisation, PME, CME and children missing from home and care.
  • Be able to work effectively with other agencies such as Social Care and or Early Help through First Response.
  • Have a robust knowledge of how to identify, assess, develop plans & monitor outcomes and review.
  • Be able to identify barriers that prevent children and staff from reporting concerns and how to overcome them.
  • Understand their roles and responsibilities to their Local Safeguarding Children Board to consider effective governance arrangements, self-evaluation and the impact of the new Ofsted Common Inspection Framework (September 2015).
