Children Missing Education - Why does it matter?

Outline

This three hour course is suitable for any Bristol school staff who have responsibility for school attendance and/or removing pupils from a City of Bristol school roll.

Description

This course provides a clear and simple outline of Bristol schools' statutory responsibilities and the Local Authority's processes for Child Missing Education.
The training addresses questions such as 'What should a school do if a child stops attending'; 'What should a school do if a child does not return from leave of absence in term time?' and 'Why does CME matter?'
Best practices and examples using school management information system SIMS
There is an opportunity for delegates to ask detailed questions.
The training encourages delegates to consider their school's current practice and what amendments, if any, may be necessary in order to ensure school policies and procedures reflect best practice.

Outcomes

Delegates will have a clearer understanding of: the law relating to deleting pupil's from the register; when and how to make a pupil tracking referral to the Education Welfare Service;
how to ensure their school's policies and procedures and are legally compliant and reflect best practice.

Bristol School staff with responsibility for school attendance and/or removing pupils from roll.
This course is suitable for all schools (including Independent Schools, Free Schools and Academies) within the Bristol City Council boundary.
This course is only suitable for schools with pupils who are compulsory school age.
