School Attendance Matters - Legal Training for Academies

An invaluable course designed for academies who prepare their own witness statements for school attendance prosecutions.

This one day course is provided by Bristol City Council Legal Services in conjunction with the Education Welfare Service.

This course is suitable for key academy staff with responsibility for school attendance.
It provides a clear outline of the legal framework for school attendance.
The training encourages delegates to consider their school's current practice and what amendments, if any, may be necessary in order to ensure school letters and attendance policies reflect best practice.
The training will include: how to compile a witness statement, and what is admissible and inadmissible evidence.
The training will also take delegates through a mock trial and delegates will be able to practice giving evidence.

Delegates will have a clearer understanding of: the law relating to school attendance; what to look for to ensure their school's policies,
procedures and letters to parents are legally compliant and reflect best practice; when prosecution may be appropriate;
how to compile a witness statement with appropriate exhibits; what to expect if a parent pleads not guilty and a case goes to trial.
